Youth Transition Empowerment Program
The Youth Transition Empowerment Program (YTEP), offers youth and young adults between the ages of 18 to 24 with a continuum of services. These are youth who are exiting foster care to live on their own and those youth who will be reunited with their families.
We provide both curriculum and practical skills instruction to aide the youth in the furtherance of their development as they transition from adolescence to young adulthood. Our goal is to reduce the number of young adults who exit from foster care into homelessness. We will accept referrals 4 weeks prior to the young person final discharge from foster care. Program Instruction Includes:
- Employment Readiness
- Educational Options
- Housing Skills
- Money Management
- Parenting Skills for Young Parents
- Youth Activities Council
- Medical Referral Services
In Spring 2010, we are commencing with a new component, Youth Transition Empowerment Mentoring Program (YTEMP). The YTEMP mission is to enhance the development of NYC former foster care youth by exposing them to a broader view of the world of work. Existing participants will be paired one on one with an identified mentor.
